Outline of Entrance Examination Instructions

General Selection (Quota: About 30)

  • Written Examination

    English test : 2 hours
    English to Japanese long passage translation concerning society, nation, etc.

    An essay-type examination (two subjects to be selected at the time of application from the professional subjects below) : 4 hours (total for the 2 subjects)
    Law : constitution, civil law (questions taken from property law), administration law, and international law
    Political Science : political theory, political history, international relations, and public administration
    Economics : economic theory, economic policy, management/accounting

  • Oral Examination

An oral examination is made to the applicants who performed a certain level of results on the written examination, based on their academic records, results on the written examination, and the documents submitted by them, etc.

Professional Selection (Quota: About 10)

  • Written Examination

    An essay-type examination (one subjects to be selected at the time of application from the professional subjects below) : 2 hours
    Law : constitution, administration law, and international law
    Political Science : political theory, political history, international relations, and public administration
    Economics : economic theory, economic policy, management, and accounting
    * You may be exempt from taking a written examination depending on the works submitted, etc.

  • Oral Examination

An oral examination is made to the applicants who performed a certain level of results on the written examination and those exempted from the written examination, based on their academic records, results on the written examination, and the documents submitted by them.

Foreigners Special Selection (Quota: a Few)

  • Written Examination

    Japanese Test : 1.5 Hours

    An essay-type examination (one subjects to be selected at the time of application from the professional subjects below) : 2 hours
    Law : constitution, administration law, and international law
    Political Science : political theory, political history, international relations, and public administration
    Economics : economic theory, economic policy, management, and accounting

  • Oral Examination

An oral examination is made to the applicants who performed a certain level of results on the written examination, based on the documents submitted by them, including the evaluation of the subjects of the written examinaiton and the proficiency of the Japanese language.

Entrance Fee and Tuition

Entrance fee : 282,000 yen (current amount)

Tuition : 267,900 yen for the 1st semester (annual amount: 535,800 yen) (current amounts)

* These amounts are subject to change at the time of your entrance or while you are in school. The payment period, etc. will be otherwise indicated.

Request for Application Documents

In order to receive the application documents by postal mail, please contact the office of School of Government, Graduate School of Law by postal mail, enclosing a return envelope of the size of Standard Kaku No. 2 (240 mm x 332 mm) with the address and full name of the recipient specified and with a stamp of 250 yen (first-class nonstandard-size mail) affixed. Please be sure to write in red "Request for Application Documents of Kyoto University School of Government" (General Selection) for the general selection, "Request for Application Documents of Kyoto University School of Government" (Professional Selection) for the professional selection, and "Request for Application Documents of Kyoto University School of Government" (Foreigners Special Selection) for the foreigners special selection.
